Job Description:
The Director of Technology will lead the agency's WordPress development and emerging AI practices, balancing hands-on technical leadership with strategic vision to scale operations, optimize delivery, and drive innovation.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Lead and scale the WordPress development practice, including internal and freelance resources
- Serve as technical escalation point for complex client challenges
- Define and implement best practices for development, QA, performance, and security
- Drive AI strategy across development workflows and broader agency operations
- Partner with Creative, UX, Client Services, and PMO teams on delivery and roadmap planning
- Lead technical discovery, architecture, and solution design for client engagements
- Support new business efforts by pitching technical and AI-driven solutions
- Evaluate and improve development processes, tooling, and operational efficiency
Requirements:
Must-Haves:
- 6 years of hands on experience in WordPress (including Gutenberg Blocks)
- Deep, hands-on expertise with modern WordPress (custom themes/plugins, Gutenberg blocks)
- AI experimentation and implementation experience (automation, AI-assisted workflows)
- Strong knowledge of PHP, JavaScript (ES6 ), HTML/CSS, MySQL, and APIs
- Prior experience leading technical teams in an agency or multi-client environment, including Developers
- Ability to gather requirements, document solutions, and architect scalable WordPress builds
- Experience acting as a client-facing technical leader or escalation point
- Strong understanding of performance optimization, SEO schemas, accessibility, and security
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with headless WordPress implementations
- Familiarity with tools like n8n, Zapier, or similar automation platforms
- People management and mentoring experience
- Experience working with offshore or distributed development teams
