We're looking for a Product Designer to help us design and deliver compelling A.I. experiences as we evolve into a daily destination for curious people seeking to understand and engage with the world.You will own the end-to-end design process, from identifying user needs to delivering impactful, measurable product outcomes. The New A.I. Products and Platforms mission is a critical, company-wide initiative tasked with building the next generation of A.I.-powered products to accelerate the company's essential subscription strategy.
In this role, you will directly contribute to business goals such as user engagement, retention, and subscription growth, ensuring that design decisions drive meaningful impact. We are looking for a designer with a passion for journalism, design, and technology. You will play a key role in shaping how AI technologies are translated into intuitive, user-centered product experiences, balancing innovation with usability and trust. You'll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Research to frame ambiguous problem spaces, define user journeys, and develop hypotheses that can be tested and iterated on. You'll advocate for user-centered design principles, using research, data, and strong storytelling to influence product direction and drive alignment.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end product design lifecycle, from discovery and concepting through launch and iteration
- Identify user needs through research, data, and cross-functional insights, and translate them into clear product opportunities
- Design and deliver intuitive, high-quality user experiences for AI-powered features and products
- Create wireframes, flows, and high-fidelity designs that clearly communicate product behavior and intent
- Prototype concepts (including with live A.I. APIs) to validate ideas and de-risk solutions
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Engineers to define product strategy, scope, and priorities
- Use experimentation, user feedback, and product metrics to continuously iterate and improve experiences
- Contribute to and evolve design systems and standards to ensure consistency and scalability
- Present work and influence stakeholders through clear design rationale and storytelling
- Mentor junior designers and contribute to a strong, collaborative design culture
- 7 years of experience as a Product Designer, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product thinking
- Proven experience designing consumer-facing digital products, ideally in mobile or web applications
- Strong foundation in interaction design, UX, and visual design, with attention to detail in micro-interactions, motion, and accessibility
- Experience partnering with Product, Engineering, and Research to deliver impactful product outcomes
- Experience using user research and product data to inform design decisions
- Experience prototyping and validating ideas (coded prototypes a plus, but not required as the primary skill)
- Familiarity with designing experiences that incorporate AI/LLMs, including shaping tone, behavior, and outputs
- Experience working in 0-to-1 and ambiguous problem spaces
- Experience designing AI-powered or data-driven products
- Background or strong interest in journalism, media, or information ecosystems
- Experience contributing to product strategy and defining success metrics
- Ability to balance innovation with usability, clarity, and trust
